How to Choose the Right Earth Auger?

How to Choose the Right Earth Auger?

Selecting the correct auger depends on several factors:

Carrier Machine

  • Mini Excavator
  • Excavator
  • Skid Steer Loader
  • Backhoe Loader
  • Crane
  • Telehandler
  • Tractor

Soil Condition

  • Clay
  • Sand
  • Gravel
  • Frozen Ground
  • Rock
  • Concrete

Hole Diameter

100 mm–1800 mm

Drilling Depth

Up to 20 meters with extensions.

Hydraulic Flow

Choose the drive unit according to machine hydraulic output.

Construction conditions and soil conditions

Alloy drill pipes have strong soil removal capabilities, and rock drill pipes can drill through gravel and weathered rocks, with relatively high hardness. Cutting tooth drill pipes are the sharpest.

What precautions should be taken when operating an earth auger ?

1. Before construction, ensure the correct model of drive head and drill rod is used to avoid equipment damage or inability to work due to incompatible models.

2. Drill bits and drill teeth are consumable parts and should be carefully inspected before construction. Replace them promptly if necessary.

3. During construction, avoid connecting large-diameter drill rods with small-diameter drill rods (mixing large and small drill rods) to prevent the small drill rod from cracking or deforming due to insufficient compressive strength.

4. During construction, keep the drill rod vertically downwards as much as possible. Avoid tilting or shaking to prevent oil leakage from the sealing ring due to stress, which could damage the equipment.

5. During construction, pay special attention to the wear condition of various parts of the drill rod. If abnormal wear is found, immediately investigate the cause: determine if the drill rod has been scratched or broken by sharp objects inside the hole.

6. During drill rod installation, if soil slips and becomes difficult to remove when lifting the rod, add some water to the drill rod blades to increase soil adhesion.
