Common faults of hydraulic breakers – anti blank firing

Blank firing is a serious violation in operation, which can lead to rapid wear and even sudden damage of the equipment

1.Energy reflection causes overload of internal components

When the hammer is empty, the impact energy cannot be released through the material and is all reflected back into the interior of the breaker.

Consequence

The piston and cylinder are subjected to 2 to 3 times the normal impact force, accelerating the cracking process.

Stress concentration at the root of the chisel may cause it to break directly.

2. The nitrogen buffer system failed

The nitrogen chamber relies on the reaction force of the materials to maintain pressure balance. Empty injection causes the nitrogen to repeatedly compress and then rapidly expand.

Consequence

The sealing ring burst and the accumulator leaked air.

The piston lost control of its return speed and hit the cylinder head.

Damaged parts

Piston/cylinder block – scratches, surface hardened layer peeling off

Nitrogen sealing assembly – Sealing ring tearing, accumulator housing cracking (severe shaking of the pressure gauge pointer as a precursor)

Control valve – The valve core is stuck, the throttle hole of the pilot oil circuit is blocked

High-pressure pipeline – joint thread deformation, hose layer separation

 

Signs of blank firing

1. The striking sound is abnormally crisp (a metallic impact sound without material buffering).

2. The rebound amplitude of the chisel has significantly increased.

3. The temperature of the hydraulic oil rises rapidly.

Emergency actions when signs of empty calls are detected:

Stop working immediately.

2. Confirm whether the chisel has completely disengaged from the crushed material, adjust the Angle, and ensure it is closely attached to the working surface before starting

3. Check if the nitrogen pressure has dropped sharply and if the temperature of the hydraulic oil is too high.

4. Let the equipment idle for 3 to 5 minutes to stabilize the hydraulic system. Check whether the bolts and pipelines are loose or leaking oil.

5. If an empty call has occurred, further handling is required

Shut down the machine for at least 30 minutes to allow the hydraulic oil to cool down.
